The Vermont State Archaeologist uses hands-on student engagement with archaeological objects to learn about Vermont’s people, places, landscapes, and environments across time. The new Vermont Archaeology Heritage Center in Barre contains 2,000 boxes of artifacts and other materials (i.e. animal bone) recovered by archaeologists from Vermont archaeological sites. The collections span over 12,000 years of Vermont’s human, landscape, and environmental history and provide amazing physical links to that very long span of time.
